For these exercises, you will need to copy files located in the
X drive in a folder named Examples/Word.
X is shared amongst the class so first make your own folder in root
of the X drive using a unique name.
Then copy the files from Examples/Word
to your personal folder.
Exercise A
Make a copy of the file Final.doc and place
it in your personal folder. Examine the document and note the use of styles in
the document. How many styles are used? You may which to use the
Normal view and specify a
Style area width in the
Options->View tab. This will enable an area
on the left of your document that displays the styles for each paragraph.
Try changing some of the styles to see how they are propagated throughout the
document.
Exercise B
Format a copy of the Example.doc file in the
Examples->Word folder using styles according
to the instructions below:
Fix spelling mistakes (these are not highlighted)
Change formatting to use styles [shown in square
brackets] – remove the text in square brackets after you have
finished
Insert a table of contents
Insert 2 figures, figa.xxx and
figb.xxx – there are a range of formats to
choose from so find the best. These include TIFF
(.tif), GIF (.gif),
JPEG (.jpg), encapsulated postscript (.eps) and
Portable Network Graphics (.png). Use
Insert->Picture from file...
Use auto numbering of figures, equations and tables – change A, B, C
to 1, 2, 3 etc
Cross reference Figures,
Tables and
Equations
Create 2 equations (see
Final.pdf)

Exercise C
Make a copy of the file Nostyles.doc and
place it in your personal folder. Use the
Edit->Replace command in
Word to search for certain formats and apply
appropriate styles.
